What is a DTF transfer?

DTF (Direct to Film) is a printing method where full-colour designs are printed onto a special film, then heat-pressed onto fabric. It works on virtually any fabric including cotton, polyester, nylon, blends, canvas, and denim. No weeding or cutting required. Just position, press, and peel.

What is the difference between DTF and screen printing?

Screen printing requires a separate screen for each colour, making it expensive for small runs. DTF prints full-colour designs with no colour limits and no setup costs. Screen printing is more cost-effective for large runs of 100+ of the same design. For small batches, custom one-offs, or designs with lots of colours, DTF is the better choice.

How durable are DTF transfers?

DTF transfers are stretch-resistant and won't crack, peel, or fade with normal washing. They can last 50+ washes when applied correctly and cared for properly. Wash garments inside out in cold water, avoid bleach and fabric softener, and tumble dry on low or air dry. Do not iron directly on the design.

Can I use a household iron instead of a heat press?

A heat press is strongly recommended. Household irons don't provide enough even pressure or consistent temperature, which can result in poor adhesion or patchy prints. If you're doing DTF transfers regularly, investing in a heat press will give you a long-lasting result.

What is the difference between DTF and sublimation?

Sublimation only works on polyester or poly-coated surfaces and cannot print white ink, so it doesn't work on dark fabrics. DTF works on any fabric and any colour, including darks and blacks. DTF also produces a slightly thicker print with more vibrant colours on cotton. If you're printing on 100% cotton or dark garments, DTF is the better option.

Is 9-colour DTF just as durable as standard DTF?

Yes. Durability is the same. The extra ink channels affect colour output only, not how the transfer bonds to fabric. Both use the same film and adhesive process. Applied correctly, both hold up to regular washing without cracking, peeling, or fading. Use the same heat press settings and garment care instructions as any DTF transfer.

PNG files at 300 DPI or Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) are recommended.
If you're using Canva, export your designs as high-resolution PNGs.
The image should have a transparent background.
Thin lines and fonts must be at least 1 mm (4px) wide.
Avoid semi-transparent areas, as they don’t print well with DTF.

What is a DTF gang sheet?

A gang sheet is a single large sheet where you arrange multiple DTF heat transfer designs together. This lets you print different designs, sizes, and quantities in one order, saving up to 60% compared to ordering each transfer individually.

What is the difference between the gang sheet builder and uploading my own gang sheet?

The online gang sheet builder lets you arrange your designs directly on our website. The upload option is for customers who already have a print-ready gang sheet file designed in software like Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva. If you don't have a print-ready file, use our online gang sheet builder instead.

What is the difference between Vivid Pro 9-colour DTF and standard DTF?

Standard DTF uses five ink channels to produce your design. It works well for most prints, but it has a narrower colour range, which means some colours come out slightly duller or less accurate than what you see on screen.

The DTF Vivid Pro uses nine ink channels. The wider colour range means brighter colours, sharper details, and output that looks closer to your original artwork. Most customers notice the difference as soon as they press their first transfer.

Do I need to prepare my artwork differently for Vivid Pro 9-colour DTF?

No. The file requirements are exactly the same. Send a high-resolution PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI, the same as any DTF order.

Which designs benefit most from 9-colour DTF?

Any design that needs to look its best. The improvement shows up across the board: colours are brighter, gradients are smoother, fine details are crisper, and the final print looks much closer to what you designed on screen.

If colour accuracy matters for your brand, or if your customers expect print quality that matches your artwork closely, 9-colour is the better option.

What file format should I upload?

We accept all file formats, but vector files or PDFs are preferred for the best results. Make sure your file is a full gang sheet layout, not just a single image. Maximum file size is 50MB. Upload at 300 DPI or higher. Images should have a transparent background. Avoid semi-transparent areas, as they don't print well with DTF.

Do you edit my gang sheet?

No. What you upload is what we print. We do not rearrange, resize, or edit your gang sheet. If we spot an issue like low resolution, we will email you before printing. If you need a transparent background, make sure your uploaded file already has transparency. If you need us to modify your gang sheet designs, a small artwork fee will apply.

What gang sheet sizes are available?

Our gang sheets are 58cm wide. Length options start from 10cm and can go up to 100 metres. Make sure your file matches one of the sizes listed on the page. The larger the sheet, the lower your cost per transfer.

What fabrics can DTF transfers be used on?

DTF transfers work on virtually any fabric, including cotton, polyester, nylon, blends, canvas, denim, leather, and spandex. They work on both light and dark coloured fabrics, as the white ink base layer ensures the design stands out on any colour. Not recommended for waterproof or coated fabrics.

How do I apply a DTF transfer?

Preheat your garment for 3 to 5 seconds. Place the transfer face down on the fabric and heat press with medium to high pressure. Press time and temperature vary depending on the fabric. Great service all round. I am so happy with how my design turned out. It was really easy to create a gang sheet and the customer service team contacted me to change some things promptly.
