FAQs
DTF Heat Transfers
What is a DTF transfer?
DTF (Direct to Film) is a printing method where full-colour designs are printed onto a special film, then heat-pressed onto fabric. It works on virtually any fabric, including cotton, polyester, nylon, blends, canvas, and denim. No weeding or cutting required. Just position, press, and peel.
What is the difference between DTF and screen printing?
Screen printing requires a separate screen for each colour, making it expensive for small runs. DTF prints full-colour designs with no colour limits and no setup costs. Screen printing is more cost-effective for large runs of 100+ of the same design. For small batches, custom one-offs, or designs with lots of colours, DTF is the better choice.
What is the difference between Vivid Pro 9-colour DTF and standard DTF?
Standard DTF uses five ink channels. It works well for most prints, but has a narrower colour range. Vivid Pro uses nine ink channels for brighter colours, sharper details, and output closer to your original artwork. File requirements are the same for both.
What is the difference between DTF and sublimation?
Sublimation only works on polyester or poly-coated surfaces and cannot print white ink, so it doesn't work on dark fabrics. DTF works on any fabric and any colour, including darks and blacks.
What fabrics can DTF transfers be used on?
Cotton, polyester, nylon, blends, canvas, denim, leather, and spandex, both light and dark colours. Not recommended for waterproof or coated fabrics.
How durable are DTF transfers?
Stretch-resistant and won't crack, peel, or fade with normal washing. Can last 50+ washes when applied correctly. Wash inside out in cold water, avoid bleach and fabric softener, tumble dry on low or air dry.
How do I apply a DTF transfer?
Preheat your garment for 3-5 seconds, place the transfer face down, and heat press with medium to high pressure. Press time and temperature vary depending on the fabric. Peel the backing hot or cold, then repress with baking paper for 10 seconds. See our DTF Pressing Instructions for detailed instructions by fabric.
Can I use a household iron instead of a heat press?
A heat press is strongly recommended for even pressure and consistent temperature. Household irons can result in poor adhesion or patchy prints.
What is the minimum order?
There's no minimum. Whether you want one piece or thousands, we can handle it.
Do you charge extra for setup?
No setup fees for DTF transfers.
What are the artwork recommendations?
PNG and vector files (AI, EPS) are recommended. Canva exports as PDF also work. PNG files must be at least 300 DPI with a transparent background. Thin lines and fonts should be at least 1mm (4px) wide. Avoid semi-transparent areas.
How fast is your turnaround?
1 to 2 business days for production, provided your file is print-ready.
UVDTF Transfer Stickers
What are UVDTF stickers?
UVDTF (Ultraviolet Direct to Film) stickers are peel-and-apply transfer stickers printed with UV-cured inks, creating a raised 3D finish. Waterproof, scratch-resistant, colourfast. No heat needed, just peel, position and press.
What is the difference between UVDTF and vinyl stickers?
UVDTF has a printed-on look with a raised 3D finish and can be printed in full colour. It’s also more durable on curved surfaces like tumblers.
Vinyl is flat and is better for long-term outdoor use, such as car decals.
What is the difference between UVDTF and DTF?
UVDTF is for hard surfaces (glass, metal, plastic, wood) and needs no heat press.
DTF is for fabric and requires a heat press.
Decorating tumblers or candle jars: UVDTF.
Printing on clothing: DTF.
What surfaces can you apply UVDTF stickers to?
Glass, metal, plastic, wood, ceramic, acrylic, leather, and stainless steel. Popular for tumblers, drinkware, candle jars, skincare bottles, phone cases, keychains, gift boxes. Not suitable for fabric or silicone.
How long do UVDTF stickers last?
Several years on indoor surfaces with proper care. Resist fading, scratching, and water.
Are UVDTF stickers dishwasher and microwave safe?
No. Water-resistant but not dishwasher or microwave safe. Handwash with mild soap for the longest lifespan.
